I can almost feel the strings cutting into the flesh of my fingertips. It's almost addictive.

My guitar still wouldn't cry.

Color Test

On leave tomorrow. Time to splurge.

P.S. Did you catch this on my blog?

After my hard drive crashed and the quotation from Greenenergy totaling up to SGD1,350, I was stumped. I needed money and this came at a time when I was already saving up for a Samsung T240 as a Christmas/New Year present for myself. Yeah, I'm THAT much of a loser... I have to buy presents for myself.

Photobucket

Uncle Jimmy, my boss/shifu/mentor from The Stunt Production called me while I was doing duty and gave me heads up that he needed a stuntman around to teach "some actors" on stunt fighting and safety. He never really was good at giving me details of a job but I always drop by anyways because I love this profession. I agreed and he sent my name in to Mediacorp for registration. I came by right after camp.

Photobucket

I used to work in Mediacorp for a while and got around quite easily but that's the thing... I WAS working here. Now I'm just a visitor and I did get a few stares and a lady questioned me on my intentions when they noticed I couldn't get a fucking door open. I didn't have the proper security clearance. Long story short, I got through after straightening some things out.

Photobucket

It's been a long time since I met Uncle Jimmy. This was the guy who brought me into this line, professionally, and we've built quite a trust over the coming couple years, scouring the region, for me to allow him to set me on fire.

The first thing I had to do after meeting him was... set up his laptop.

There was a cameraman around trailed by a very serious-looking producer that directed him on the shots. It felt like serious business and I had to piece together the evidence to get a feel on what's happening. I found out that Singapore Media Academy was running a class on Stunts and Safety in lieu with their acting classes. Cool.

Photobucket

Uncle Jimmy went about to teach and showed them his library of videos and photos that we created and spoke of his experience over the years. You could always trust him to be a good speaker, I can tell you that. When asked by the student actors if anything happened after my fire torch stunt, Uncle Jimmy said in Chinese,"Nope, nothing. Only he's much darker now."

Oh, haha, make fun of my 'tan', will you?

Photobucket

Another of his assistant was with him, and we knew each other. He brought in paddings and small pyrotechnics to the class. Included was a dummy rifle that Uncle Jimmy built himself by hand. I was asked to fix it up with the explosives to simulate a gunfire effect. We couldn't bring in the real guns since the cost of just taking it out of the armory doesn't justify it.

Photobucket

Soon enough, my real job started and I was a demonstrator for the class as he set me up in padding and pummeled me with styrofoam sticks. We played out a fight sequence that included blocking and double-action which ended with me flipping over onto the mattress. But things changed soon enough and we got the girls to do the sequence. The room was then hyped with activity as bodies went spinning and tumbling on the mattress.

Uncle Jimmy then got around to teaching them how to throw a punch and how to react. I went around and gave directions and spoke to them on my whatever minute number of experiences I had doing stunts. I realized I was back to 'Student Director Mode' which I hated unlike the new personality I had in Stagmont. I have to work on that.

More pushing, more tumbling, Uncle Jimmy then showed how much he still had left in him at the age of 54 by demonstrating a front flip and landing flat on his back on the hard floor below. Right, no mattresses. After that, he had the guys and the girls do a forceful clothesline on his back... a few times. If you had ever had your balls rip apart with raw testosterone...

The class came to an end when they learned how to hold a revolver and I went around taking pictures. The final firearm demonstration was Uncle Jimmy detonating the pyro planted in the rifle barrel. That one always draws the most Oohs and Aahs from the crowd.

The producer came up to me and asked me to sign some papers and that was usual paperwork. I almost forgot. In the Army every paper that required you to sign never really meant anything but surveys and questionnaires.

I got back home and was up the next morning for work. A few days later, my father came running into my room saying,"It's you! You're on TV!"

Apparently they showed a few clips of the class on Channel News Asia that weekend. Great, I thought, I'm on TV wearing vest and slacks with a funky US Marine haircut. I didn't catch the segment but received a couple of calls and one from Uncle Jimmy that also had another task for me. It's fun, really. I love this job.

Photobucket

Singapore Media Academy has been getting some airplay on the radio for some courses. During the class break I got to peek into a class that was teaching Mandarin. Thing is, they were full of Chinese people! A quick hop to their site and I was intrigued on their vocal classes. I've been singing a lot lately while on duty and I've been meaning to improve on this skill for years. Acting is another trait I would like to improve and I think taking up one of this courses would be a good starting point. The very least, you would have a rough gauge on where you are on the talent leaderboards.

Wait... am I doing this right?

Nuffnang is holding a Christmas party this 20th over at DXO and getting in means writing a post with exactly the title above. It's that simple.

So, what exactly is vPost? If this page could get any simpler, I'd sum it up to a few things:
  • Cheaper Shipping.
  • Cheaper Goods.
  • Right to your doorstep.
Why not?

I'm not familiar with online shopping. I don't even know much about regular shopping. I didn't even know Orchard Road was soooooo long till the day Nick had me run up and down looking for a LAN cafe. But I did a quick surf over the different sites that are affiliated with this vPost service and found a few pretty nifty gadgets. Over at vPost USA I thought I saw a 50% discount on a phone.

I'm an ass by nature so I went over to look for items that... you know... aren't allowed here. With my back erect, I thrusted forward into a selection of racks that held items I yearned to have a grab at. I ran into this, though. Meh, I'll get my porn and beef extract elsewhere, thank you very much.

I'm sure some out there would find vPost useful. I find this incentive welcoming. If anything, it means there's a substantial pool of online shoppers and I'm glad Singapore post is helping out with the cost. It's the kind of thing eBay should have done wayyy before.

I'm not as creative as Jayden and I don't expect to win anything from this post. It's all for great fun, and I would love to attend the Christmas party. It'd be my first attending a Nuffnang event and it's a great distraction than the drone of what is the Army... and the sun.

I could do up a song but then that'll just be imitation. So here's a little flash animation I did up in After Effects one lonely night.

Have a nice day.

If there's one thing that I'm very judgmental about in the Army is the appearance of a person in uniform. I don't hold a very important position, and I'm only a Private, the second lowest rank in this whole hierarchy of shiny bling-bling awesomeness. But I keep checking on my bearing - checking seams, removing lint, arranging collars and keeping my jockey cap sharp and level. It's like preparing for a rainy day when a superior lashes at you. The least I could say is, "HA! But my neatly folded sleeve disagrees with you!"

There are various tricks out there to go around getting that polished boot and sleeves folded with the sharpest accuracy. The rule of the thumb is - if it works, it works. Looks good, good to go. Hell, I don't even polish my boots to that ultra-shiny sheen some people are having. I was meant to toil in the mud, not become a display model for the aunties.

If there's one thing that irks me is the way some would wear their berets. Call me old-fashioned, but berets are a mark of prestige. What's with the chapati style?

Photobucket
Look at guy with hands in pocket.

So here I am, writing this guide on how to properly shape a beret. Or as we call it here in the SAF - seasoning. We season everything... from chicken meat to boots and rifles.
It's not meant to be THE way to shape a beret nor do I guarantee you'll look damn bloody smart wearing it after. Looks good, good to go.

Ready? Here are the things you'll need to prepare:

  1. A beret a bit larger than you're used to.
  2. Lighter
  3. Candles
  4. Scissors
  5. Disposable razor
  6. Running tap water
  7. An hour to spare

Got them? Cool.

Photobucket

I didn't have the luck to receive my beret in a parade. I bought mine at the e-mart for five dollars. If you could choose the size of your beret, buy one that's slightly bigger than your jockey cap. I'm wearing a size 7, and a fellow RP of mine recommended me to get a 7 1/4 instead. The reason is because the beret will definitely shrink after a while. There's a drawstring that could be adjusted if it was too big to fit. Also, the extra cloth area will give a slightly lower hangover over the eyebrow that, in my opinion, clearly spells "Ima kick your ass, and still look good doing it."

Wear the beret on your head. It has to sit straight on your head and the rims should be about a finger and a half spacing above your eyebrow. Shape the beret over your head by pulling the right side over to the side of your head, pinching it where the crest is supposed to be and neatly fold the creases to make the hangover. The edge of the hangover should lightly touch the outer ends of the eyebrows. Most people would leave it at that and that's where the chapati-style originates from. Can't have that. Once you have a rough idea on how it'll look like, tie the drawstring with a dead knot but don't cut off the ends.

Here's where we start shaping and "seasoning" the beret. Find an airy place and light up the candle. Secure it to the table and bring over the beret. Then, lightly tease the beret fabric with the flame. The purpose here is to burn off the excess fluff on the fabric. Don't be afraid of the fire - the fabric isn't that flammable. Just remember to move it around and around the whole fabric area and not stay in one spot. What you'll get is a beret that looks like it's been toasted and the lingering smell of burnt fluff. Gotta love the smell... it's like over-barbequed meat over a grill set in the middle of a burning dumpster with a dead whore in it.

Photobucket

Take the disposable razor and scrape away the burnt fluff. No need to be gentle here but shave lengthwise along the fabric. Take your time. After that, repeat the step before until there is little fluff left to burn.

Photobucket

Next, overturn the beret to reveal the cloth layer underneath. Take a pair of scissors and cut away all this cloth, saving only the leather portion. This leather portion holds the crest that will be added later on. Some might argue against cutting away this layer but it's your preference. I cut mine off (like a few things that's been done unwillingly to my body parts). Repeat the burning-shaving process with the underside. You won't want to keep plucking excess fluff from your hair every time you wear this baby, would you?

Photobucket

Almost done! Dump the beret under hot water and gently wash away all that pungent carbon that made you curse at me for leading you into this mess. Experience has thought me never to use detergent or soap to wash headgear like caps and helmets (aha, you say.) so I didn't. Now do a final wash in cold water and make sure the loose fluff is removed. Remove the excess water by gently squeezing the beret. Don't rinse it or twist it or my two cats gets it.

Photobucket

Once that's done, fire up the computer, set up your favorite game, load up a movie, surf Digg.com or anything to waste the time away. You could even clear up the workplace and spray some goddamn air freshener around! You're then going to perform any of the mentioned activities like you always do but this time WITH the beret, still damp, over your head. That's right, wear that beret, and I didn't literally meant hang it somewhere over your head with a hook, dumbass. Shape it with the mirror as your guide and once you've got it all set and creased, let it dry naturally over your head. I passed my time by camwhoring.

Photobucket

You're pretty much done after the beret dries up. You've just saved yourself a couple of months of constant seasoning to get the beret shaped right within the hour. Even my old NCC beret that's been with me for a good four years doesn't look as good as this new one I have. And that old thing has been creased and squeezed every week!

Photobucket

There's a particular way of storing a beret. This is what I've been thought years ago, and is the norm for a lot of people. Pull the front and back end of the rims (the drawstring end and the opposite of that) to clearly divide the beret into two. Then pick up the side with the two airholes and bring up a third way of the beret. Finish this by pulling the other end over the folded end to create this funny looking sushi-beret-fold thing. Find a place to wedge this beret into and leave it there till the next time you need it. I have mine under my mattresses. Use this sushi-folding method to carry around the beret when not in use outside. You can also be a douchebag by putting it under the left shoulder strap of your number 4. Just remember to walk around like you own the place. Make no notice that you look totally like a jackass with a thing that looks like a dead animal on your shoulder.

Otherwise, wear it on your head and beam with pride as you greet other fellow soldiers because deep inside, you know, you look awesome with that beret on your head.

Photobucket

I hope this guide would be of use to anyone who comes across it. Please spread this article to anyone that sports the chapati-syle. Hell, better yet, offer them your beret-shaping services and charge them five dollars for it!

And yes, if you were wondering, I was high the day I decided to light a candle and burn fluff. This proves it.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this article.

FSV, the course I took in poly, invited their alumni to Movida at St. James for a party to celebrate their 15th anniversary in existence on the 4th of December 2008.

I was there to attend. Wait, I didn't know I was in their alumni....

Photobucket
(Source:Leon Lee)

It was a nice party and adequately packed with people. I had to squeeze and shove around a bit to get around. There were plenty of well-known faces on the floor and up stage we had Alaric Tay hosting for us. There were some high-key people in the industry lol-ing about and I watched as current and former students interacted whether it was to relive memories or boast on the kind of projects they've been doing.

Photobucket

Sure, I would have loved to interact with more people, but Daryl and I were pretty pissed at the fact that we're in the Army and we can't do a thing about it. The girls from our batch were either in Chapman University at Ngee Ann or off overseas. I took up a little corner, and along with our other classmates that we met, had a seat. I saw Randall Tan standing in one corner of the smoking section though he wasn't smoking. I wonder if he remembers me. I acted with him once as a bit player.

I find that I don't really like talking about whatever jobs I've been doing. Maybe because my profession isn't what we would call... creative... or... artistic. Rather, I'm just muscle. I'm just a grunt. A friend was asking around what others were doing... camera assistant, editor, graphics artist, producing, and when it came to me, he changed his tone and asked,"Are you still with the stunt thing?"

Wait... the
' stunt thing '?

Photobucket

I'm going to say that this was just another particular case of a person with a condition known as assfacetitis. I'm sorry I don't wear a beret and a scarf prancing around and memorizing director's names. I'm sorry I don't share your love for the arts.

I still have some affection left to the men and women I've slaved with at 3am in the morning speeding down highways and filling up petrol. I've wanted to make a short film for the longest time. I've been talking to Jayden about it a couple of times, but I'm still looking at how we can make something beautiful out of what we have. The sponsors for the party gave us quite an interesting goodie bag and I bet there are some things that Jayden would like.

Photobucket

I left the place soon and Don, Deborah, Daryl and I (Three Ds, one A. I'm always the odd one out) continued our conversation till the wee hours of the morning at Vivo City's Mc Donald's. I went back to camp the next day and spent the majority of the day sleeping. I remember clearly what one of my RP mates asked me, "Audi... are you drunk?"

With free flow of red wine that night and a massive hangover the next day? I'd say I'm contented.

If you had actually gone out to look at the sky on the 1st of December you'd probably catch a phenomenon that happens every thirty years - The Smiley Moon.

I was first alerted of this phenomenon by our lovely button-mashing-mouse-clicking netizens over at Digg.

It appears different in countries with Melbourne, where this picture was taken, with a smiley face, and the Americans received the frowny face. On the critical height of the Thailand crisis over at the airports, the PAD demonstrators saw the smiley face. You would then think they take it that they're doing the correct thing. Well, no. You PAD guys were okay... but the grenade throwing and shooting... nah.

The two dots that make up the eyes are the planets Jupiter and Venus. I fucking kid you not.

I ran up Stellarium, a free planetarium software, and set the date to 1st Dec with the location at Singapore.

At exactly a couple of minutes before 8pm, Stellarium came up with this. Have a closer look here.

Who knew you could see planets with the naked eye? My sister was confused when I saw it on the 2nd of Dec when we were driving back home from camp. My father is another one and he sarcastically said, "Oh, so you're an astrologer now?"

I almost replied, "Yes, and I dabble with Satan himself. OoooOoooo."

I only saw this phenomenon on that night, and by then, the positions have been shifted and the great sky looked down on me with a crooked frown. Well fuck you!

It would have been all fine and dandy but my dad just had to push on his religious purity mentality into everything we ever speak about. And it sucks. It truly sucks. I'm fine if you pray to some imaginary baby up in the sky or to that squashed up lizard between the tables but Jesus Effing Christ could we not wedge it into every conversation? See, now that's why we don't get along well as a father and son. Cause you don't freaking care about whatever else I do, like how well I'm growing up, how I interact with people, or anything a normal father would do. No, all you bother is whether or not I speak the name of that god you adore so much like until I'm frothing at the mouth. When I was sick, you told me to pray. When I was down, pray, when I was tired, pray. When I'm out of cash, NO! Don't find work! Go and pray for more money!

What the fuckidy fuck, seriously? Then, dad, fuck the doctor, go pray and maybe one day you wont be having high blood pressure anymore! Throw away that witchcraft you call medicine!

My dad didn't bat an eye up in the sky (well, he was driving), and he said,"Look up upon the sky and marvel at the wonders of God."

Yeah, well look up and wonder at the marvels of astronomy, dumbass. It's an inherent problem, I find, that a lot of people will go into the holier-than-thou mode whenever they see something that they cannot explain. Instead of getting up and learning more about things they do not understand, they sit back and pat themselves on their backs with a nod, comfortable in their explanation that some big imaginary man is having fun moving moons and stars for us. Well, do something more worthwhile... like... cure AIDS.

1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Some people just don't get it, don't they.

Wouldn't it be so convenient if we could somewhat transport ourselves into the body of the people we obsess with?

If I had just two wishes that would be granted, one, when I die, that's it, no after-life or anything. Two, I'd want to be able to see through the eyes of people.

The closest I could get to this is labeled as "voyeurism". Sometimes I wonder if this is a medical condition. How do you describe a person when he keeps little trinkets of their friends like... hair samples, handwritten math calculations, photos of them through the years that has been dugged out through people who have access to them? I don't know. I think I'm sick in the mind. I might be missing something from long ago. Too long ago that it's buried deep in my subconscious. I need to know what is it!

Photobucket

I'm getting sick of this habit. It harbors obsession and a possessive character. My deepest fear would be having this habit ruin my life just for that few seconds of voyeuristic opportunity. For god's sake, I set up a telescope once pointing towards a friend's place and monitored his movements often. It's a thrill I can't shake off and a natural high.

I need to stop doing this. And grow up.
