What im about to show you is gonna make a guy with a top hat carrying balloons in China cry out in agony.
and its not a black and white photo.
I gave the rubbles (only) an ink bath as usual. Im getting used to the smell too. heh heh. Simple... diluted Chinese ink spread all over areas to be painted with an old brush.
i left this to dry (as usual). and then i checked the dio again.. testing the pieces to see if they are strong enough for drybrushing. Many werent! oh dear God i had to glue ALL those little bricks back down. Well it wasnt hard work actually and turned out to be er... fun. *Calls mental hospital...*
Also... since styrofoam absorbs virtually nothing... i brush painted the individual bricks with matt black enamel. Tedious work but i just love seeing colours form.
A lot of the sand particles came off too. So i gave it a few more coats of white glue. and that's where the ineveitable happened... the cheapo Value spray BROKE into half! What the toot! And i just mixed up another diluted glue mixture.
Damn... so i just got really frustrated... i threw everything at it but the kitchen sink (and fridge) to keep the groundwork together. A good old technique worked here. I took out a very old brush.. it was huge too... and dipped it into the glue mixture... and STABBED it onto the groundwork. yeah. So there i was.. stabbing the ground at 3 in the morning.
(thats a blur picture of a BRUSH stabbing the ground with glue)
Over here the groundwork is EXTREMELY wet. White glue dries clear. I left it to soak overnight.
However... be careful when ermm... stabbing.... see what happened to my wallpaper...
The smudges on the wallpaper sure adds a bit of old feeling into the dio (another positive discovery made by mistake... like Penicillin... Penscillin... Penncillin... ermm... Panadol..)
So the next day (today)... i got up and welcomed Henry to my room. Yeah his comp flew to the moon and aint coming back so he's here to play Conquer. This means i cant take proper pictures cos my light is beside the comp table.
ANyways.... i tested the groundwork again and YEAH!!! whoo!!! i took out a hammer and whacked the thing... whoo!!! it was virtually bullet proof!! Then i gave the hammer back to my neighbour. he needed it as his gearstick. So while Henry was playing ont he comp.. i sat on my bed (for the first time ina long while. Either i lie on it or tell the truth. err... stand on it.)
Now for the fun.... DRYBRUSHING!!! (Gets a phone call from China and hear's screams of agony)
The steps shown in the webbie i have on hand now says to actually spray everything black using car primer. Then to mist on white primer paint. after that was airbrushin concrete colour.. brick colour.. bla bla bla I CANT DO THAT!!! my pavement and walls will melt! So i was on my own from now on. :(
To represent brick colour.. i used Humbrol's Enamel (Hears more screams of agony) of number 100. Drybrushing is fun. I found out some of the foam strips i used were not totally covered up and looked bare and detail-less. Scribed in bricks with a bamboo skewer (a very very long version of a toothpick.) Tehn after this was more drybrushin.. leaving some parts of the rubble black and painting individual bricks with the usual Indian Red and brown enamels. Left this to dry and coming back to work on it later at night. Sitting down here watching videos of friends with Henry... whoo...
Henry playing Conquer. Notice my line of unpainted figurines under the monitor screen and around the speaker. Notice my light too? yeah u notice my rolls of sandpaper behind that? ooo and also the Panzerspahwagen sitting on the top of the monitor. On its right is the Sherman. oh yeah dun forget my towel that is hanging... heh heh. Oh dear im bored.
After the first pass of drybrushing.
The oil drum sure grabs attention. boo.. attention seeker!!
Then of course... since bricks had different shades.. i also used different shades of brick colour (indian red... brown... yawns...) to drybrush..
will update soon~~~!!!!
