While waiting for photobucket to upload my photos, let me explain the outlines of an entirely new project (not another project!!)

hmm well i think i have aknack for history so i thought.. yeah why not do a research on Singapore during the war and compile it all for future references? I mean.. who noes.. maybe in a few years time some of these historical site will be giving way to lame things like malls or a skate park (wow.. that is original, Singapore.) yeah or maybe another "hub" for i dunno... computers (we have that already. it's called Funan IT Mall.) So these photos of the original place before "destruction" could really serve well for future generations eh ? (yeah like many of us youths would care). I found within my household a few books on old singapore and they included photos dating back to the 1800s. Surprising that Singapore actually had TRAMS running around.

Anyways what i'm laying out now is a detailed (help me God) research of the battle sites in Singapore. I've already got many pointers from books like "Fortress Singapore" as well as video footages. I happen to find someone who lived through the war and he was born in 1922 or sth like that. Happened to be my grandfather (and i didnt even noe). He happens to have a knack for war too (runs in the family i guess).

Ok ok first let me lay out the areas i'll visit first. I'll start from central Singapore.
  • Kent Ridge Park - This is where the Malay Regiment fought the Japanese in the famous Pasir Panjang Ridge battle; one of the fiercest battles (on the island). Reason they defended was cause of the main ammunitions depot behind them.
  • Labrador Park - The Brits built a battery (gun emplacements) up there. Artillery guns here helped the Malay Regiment in the Pasir Panjang Ridge battle and there are some pill-boxes littered around here. umm there is an underground bunker here too but hasnt been explored yet (WHY?!?!). People believe it links all the way to Sentosa and stuff. ( Actually its not sealed but still in use by the current Singapore military. Yeah.. the government and its cover-ups and me with my imagination.)
  • Alexandra Hospital - We all know what happenned here rite? The Massacre~~ Japs killed lotsa people here even those on hospital beds. I read somehwere that Yamashita was furious when he heard this and executed many of those responsible. *told u Yamashita was a good guy~~*
  • Singapore General Hospital - Back during the war, this was somehwat a medical school. A funeral was being held, attended by 25 friends of the student victim. Then all of a sudden the Japs shelled the area. Some ran into the building for cover, others dived into the trenches and a few actually took cover in the deceased's (?) grave! But still.... 11 of those 25 died. A memorial has been set up for these elven medical students...... with their pictures on it.
  • City Hall - Ooo yes.. this place has seen many things.. the invasion.. the surrender... the Brits coming back... the victory parade and soon... The New Paper Big Walk 2005~! Oh yeah there's this picture of the ENTIRE roof (including the dome and windows) filled with people watching the British Victory Parade.
  • Kandahar Street - One of the many concentration points the Japs used to screen the population for anti-Jap elements. Ooo a lot of backstabbing here frm spies and our Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew (all hail him~~!!) actually escaped death here ( I think ) after he ran from the Japs cause he "left sth at home".
  • Fort Canning Park - Now a place where inconsiderate couples come to have toot ( it isnt official though. but we all know~~), below this hill lay another underground bunker used by the Brits. Officially called the Battlebox, it now has been fitted with crap like audio and visual systems and an electronic tour guide system boombawakalakashooka to bring visitors around the tunnels. -.- . I dunno.. i just think new installment is crap.
  • Fort Siloso - Located on sunny Sentosa ( a place where desperate people go to see the opposite sex and possibly another whore-house, just island-size, and of course. a place where recreational activities can be done peacefully (IF ONLY theRE WASNT SO MANY PEOPLE!!).), this is the locaition of the main Singapore defences 60 years ago. Fort Siloso hold many gun emplacements and ooo.... that lesser-known story of the British Artillery Squad left there by their forgetful superiors after the surrender.
There is still the Eastern and Northwestern parts of the island which holds many places of interest like the Japanese cemetery, Ford Motor Factory and Changi Beach. But hey i think this Central portion is enough to make me busy for the next two weeks. :)

ooo ok the Photobucket thingy is done.... now for some PICTURES!!! *soon ill be opening another Photobucket account...*

p.s. These images were taken straight of a video recording so the picture quality is like... yeah.

a closer view of the Supreme Court.

The WWII portion of the memorial (called the Cenotaph). Interestingly i found out... this memorial has been standing since 1922!! whooo!!! the Japs saw this thing!!

The clock tower of Victoria memorial hall taken from the Big Durian Thing. Compare. The older pic shows ppl building trenches. Frankly.. the towers look extremely diffferent! But i donno... they said it is the Victoria Memorial Hall... so... sui pien hor?

Wootz~!!! Singapore City!! the CBD area.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
ok ok im not sure if these two pics show the same builidng. The Fullerton square has been there for quite sometime so there may be a possibility these are the same buildings. From another book on Singapore's history.. they showed that same brown roof thingy and called it eh... Keppel Harbour? sth like that. The harbour has been there since 1900. I dunno... might be wrong... i still can see sth like a pier near the Fullerton. It's located behind the Merlion.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com See those red lights? Those are light fixtures on top of the yellow cranes used to transfer containers in the harbour/pier. zzz but i dunno.. the Fullerton now doesnt have a curved roof design. (from what i can see at night)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com whooo Javis Ho Ding Ying.... yeah he's been sticcking around for a while helping me with my models and giving me the company so that i can actually come down here and record all these historic places. I couldnt carry two cameras and a tripod plus a bag of batteries on my own and WALKING around alone in City Hall rite?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Vis loved the view of Explanade's fountains and yeah he took some pictures for his girl. :)

ooo and those framing, as i found out.. is for this Sunday's event; The New Paper Big Walk 2005. Also there happened to be a crane sitting in the midle of the Padang (field) infront of the Supreme Court. It grabbed my attention cos i saw sth it had that i wanted to take down... slowly, Vis and i crept along in the middle field, lit only by the other building in the area to the crane.. and i took this down.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
muahahaha!!! MUD!!! MUD!!! MUD!! TRACKS!!! MUD AND TRACKS!!! this is as close as i can get (for now) to a real tank! i Soaked in all the little details on video and left the area extemely happy. Vis wasnt. He stepped on not one, but three huge puddles of mud. there goes his shoes.

That's it from me. See u around.

EDIT POST: OH MY GOD!!! I SOLVED THE PUZZLE!!! now i know what that tower is in the trnches picture! It's the CENOTAPH!! omg how did i miss that?!!? ooo spooky~~
I apologise to the Victoria Memorial Clock Tower for the misidentification. I'll but a drink of grease oil ok?

Wow... i really cant believe the amount of responses i got just on the Type 97 Chi Ha! i posted this girl of mine on www.ww2modelmaker.com (Bench Top Forums) and in just a short period of time i had THREE responses coming in. And the next day i had TWO more! what's more, I had JAMES DUNCAN ( I see him often in the forums and read some of his articles too ) replying. But it wasnt so much as a "that's good" reply but more of a "that's good and i wanna help u get even better" reply!

GO ahead and click on http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=212524&messageid=1116175502 if u really wanan see it.

oh dear this is a bit too much for me to handle actually...

ok anyways remember these pictures?
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com
well yesterday i took some time off with Javis and we went down to City Hall at around 9:30pm and took this picture.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This is the EXACT same spot the cameraman stood ( actually.. he was about a few metres more to my left ) in 1942. That building with the dome is the Supreme Court. Beats me.. but the dome has changed colour from red rust to blue. oo i think i noe why... Oxidation~!! its made of copper!! heh heh.

Standing at that same spot was amazing (dun ask questions) ! that is the actual road the Japs had their tanks rolling on after the surrender. Those frames u see infront of the supreme court are for seats. I think they're gonna hold something there soon enough. Behind me when the picture was taken is a memorial dedicated to the victims of World War One and Two.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com This is the World War One section of the memorial. Sadly youths nowadays dont appreciate these kinda stuff anymore. That little boy on the left hand corner of the picture actually came with a teenage guy and they were skateboarding on the memorials. Grinding here and there making noises and he actually threw something that broke from his piece of wood onto the lower ends of the memorial.

Anyways as for the Type 97, I'm thinking of setting up a little base for it. Nothing big, just something to hold it on too. I'm planing another trip with Javis and this time we are going to Eunos to take a few pictures of a very very old house which belonged to my father's parents (both are gone now.. father's still around ). I'm not so sure if the house in Lorong Sarina was actually built during or after the war but anywho... it has that x-factor that pulls my heart strings. :) I've done so many models for many reasons (The country, friends, money ) but i've never done anything for myself. Maybe its time i did sth for myself eh?

ok ok enough talk.

Some of u might ask about my Leningrad diorama titled "Russia's Heroes" ( Originally named Stalingrad).... well.... two words... It died.

This dio.. which Henry and Vis were so eager to see it's completion, has been reduced to this:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Sad story.
What happened was i neglected giving attention to my cat ( I keep modeling till 5 or 6 am in the morning ) so it started getting restless and jumped all over the moon. Soon it ended up to my shelf and pushed this whole junk u see here....
Image hosted by Photobucket.com.

WHAM! landed on my computer monitor, over my modeling table all spilled all its contents. AARRGHHH!!!! It CRUSHED my Hetzer ( another model Vis was so eager to see completed ) and toppled over my Sherman tank. But somehow... God's will.... The Type 97 which also got hit right infront of me, only lost a wheel which i managed to fix back together and the Sherman somehow took cover and was saved from the majority of the blow. Nothing broke.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The Hetzer didnt have a good time to say the least. The photo-etched machinegun shields broke off, the left rear fender broke off, Saukopf gun matlet and gun barrel along with the entire back hull section just got smashed out of place. Saddening really. Gave my cat a good whacking ( but i slept with it later ).

But hey! I finally got the Hetzer back together again (and all the king's men helped me. humpty dumpty la la la~~) and it's better than before! Running gear's all busted though. Now i need to buy aftermarket resin ones and new tracks for it. :(

Poly's starting in 7 days for me. Modeling will slow down a bit. :(

I leave with this announcement:
One Hetzer, coming right up!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
oooo sprues..... now we're gonna transform this into art!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
This is soon to be art.

This will never be art.

I posted up pictures of the Chi Ha on Missing-Lynx's Constructive COmments Discussion Groups
and this are the couple of responses i got:

****** START *******

  • Looks great Audi! - Grant M Vogl on May 15, 6:50 AM

  • What kit is this? You've done an excellent job!

    Grant

  • Very nice Chi-ha... - Roman Suchanek on May 15, 8:11 AM

  • Hello,

a very nice rendition of the Tamiya kit. It is surprising, that we don't see them more often here, as it is a beatiful kit, with only few modifications needed...

I like how the green color came out - what shade did you use?

    Thank you and best regards
    Roman

    ***** END ********

Muahahaah whooo hooo... dont get me wrong, after the forum moderators applied a rule to only allow REGISTERED members to post messages, the amount of replies has dwindled considerably. Two people commenting on a model is more or less a measure for a JOB WELL DONE. lolz.. self praise self praise.

I've also written up an ARTICLE on this build and since i cant find a host site to place the files in,
I produced it into jpeg format. It's almost impossible to see the little details so i'll keep looking for that host site...

WOW. THAT IS HUGE. HOPE YOU ALL LEARNED STH TODAY>..

btw, many of these tips and advices i've mentioned came directly from
M Workshop and it's artists (Bernard, Dinesh, Ah Lim, Eng Guan, Sam and a few more I couldnt get their names *damn!*) The little one week attachments with them has really got me improving on my skills (although nowadays ive sort of became evil and slowly sidetracked to perform evil modeling deeds like not glossing the tank before applying decals or clearing out mistakes during a build.)

But of course, I also wouldnt have the inspiration to do this model if it wasnt for Singapore (yes, i'm exceptionally patriotic for a Singaporean teenager) and the drive to make my friends say,"wah...~~"

    :)

    Whoo hoo~~!!!

I dare say that the Type 97 is 92% completed!

Now let me show u another teaser....

    Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Maybe in a couple of days, I'll be able to bring up the completion percentage to 100%!!
I'll also write a lengthy and DETAILED article on how i painted this little prick. I promise you LOTS of pictures from paint being stripped to completion!

After this, I'll order another Type 97 (Mr. Francis lied to me. Tamiya is still producing the kit.) plus a PHOTO-ETCHED set and maybe MODELKASTEN WORKABLE TRACKS!! This means MORE details, REALISTIC SAGS of the tracks PLUS it can be moved! superb!! then maybe we'll sell it. :)

Additional Info: This tank is based on tank no.11 of Japan's 1st Tank Regiment, 2nd Company. It was in "Xin Jia Po" in 1942~~!!!! oo call me weird but OMG this tank is like my IDOL!!! Then again... i made it. *stands proudly*...

Sorry for the long stall.... Im working on two tanks now.... The Type 97 and a German Hetzer. :)
Two small compact tanks for our viewing pleasure.

I found... somehwere in the depth of modeling hell... a fetish for detail and "scratch-building". You might be shocked at the amount of metal i've put on my Hetzer...

My Type 97 is special; its tracks are workable! They can turn freely. So just now i was pushing this little boy along my table (yeah... laughable aint it..) and i thought that... what if i put in a motor? the on/off switch could be built in the bottom of the tank... wiring should be simple... just need the front sprockets to move then there.. a moving scale tank! I can use them for my movies too!

Ok ok so there .. another (yawns....) new project coming up. Now if only i could find another Type 97 set.....

Chi Ha is undergoing painting later tonight... God bless you, my favourite tank.

The Japs had Gekko bombers and Zero fighters (and Otsu and Haki and Ki....). What did the Brits have? a Buffalo (the name really was Buffalo) plane designed in 1939. Japs attacked us in 1942 and between 1939 to 1945, warfare technology really advance very very rapidly. U can get new tanks every month if u were German.

He wont have much luck if he were here right now... every girl here are either attached or has been unvirginatized.... yeah. After the war they got him and executed him. No kidding....They rounded up lotsa Japs after the war and executed them for war crimes. Even during the war, Yamashita sent people to arrest those soldiers who rape and kill and loot and most probably execute them too. Yamashita aint a bad guy eh?
